AKOOL Creator Residency: Turning AI Video Exploration Into Real Creative Output

The Challenge

AI creative tools are evolving quickly, but there is still a gap between what the technology can do and how creators actually use it.

Many creators are interested in AI video, but turning that interest into a repeatable creative workflow is another challenge. Creators need tools that not only produce high-quality results, but also give them the flexibility, speed, and control they need to create content they can actually publish.

At AKOOL, we wanted to understand that process firsthand.

Instead of relying only on surveys and product analytics, we invited creators into our Palo Alto office to work directly with our platform and team - giving us the opportunity to see how they create, where they encounter challenges, and what they need from AI video tools.

The AKOOL Creator Residency Program

AKOOL launched the Creator Residency Program to bring creators closer to our product, our team, and the AI video creation process.

We hosted six Creator Residency information sessions, attracting approximately 40 sign-ups and 25 attendees.

From those sessions, we selected two creators to participate in the in-office residency.

The creators represented two very different use cases.

· A short-film creator focused on storytelling, visual style, and cinematic production.

· A marriage consultant exploring how AI video could help create educational and relationship-focused content more efficiently.

Bringing together creators with such different goals allowed us to see how AI video can support both creative storytelling and practical, professional content creation.

Creating With AKOOL

During the residency, creators worked directly with AKOOL alongside members of our team.

They explored AKOOL's AI-powered video creation workflows and tested how generative AI could fit into their existing creative processes - from developing concepts and generating visual assets to building content intended for real audiences. The residency gave creators a hands-on way to move beyond simply experimenting with AI and begin incorporating AKOOL into an actual content-production workflow.

The hands-on environment also gave our team immediate feedback on the creator experience: what felt intuitive, where creators wanted more control, and what mattered most when moving from experimentation to a finished piece of content.

For the creators, the residency provided an opportunity to experiment with new AI workflows while having direct access to the people building the technology.

From Experimentation to Published Content

The residency went beyond simply testing AI tools.

One participating creator took the process from experimentation to a finished original project that was published publicly, demonstrating how AI can become part of a real creative production workflow.

The finished content was distributed across multiple platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, with the complete project also published online.

More importantly, the program gave AKOOL an opportunity to observe how creators actually work with AI video in a real production environment.

What We Learned

One of the biggest takeaways from the Creator Residency was that creators care about much more than the quality of an individual AI model.

They care about control, workflow, speed, iteration, and whether the final output is something they can actually use and publish.

We also saw how different types of creators approach AI differently.

For filmmakers and storytellers, visual flexibility, creative control, and cinematic quality are especially important.

For consultants, educators, and other professional creators, speed, simplicity, and repeatable workflows can matter just as much.

Despite those differences, both groups ultimately want the same thing: technology that makes it easier to turn an idea into finished content.

Bringing Creators Closer to the Product

The Creator Residency is part of AKOOL's broader effort to build AI video tools around the way people actually create.

By bringing creators directly into the product experience, we can learn from their workflows while giving them the opportunity to experiment with new AI capabilities and turn those experiments into real creative output.

It creates a direct feedback loop between creators, technology, and the AKOOL team - helping us build better tools while giving creators new ways to bring their ideas to life.
